On 9 of April, 2019 in Milan (Italy), within the Milan Design Week’19 Ukraine was represented by the Project of Ukrainian Designers “MODERN_ISM” Exposition at a joint National stand in the Superstudio Expo location.
. The participants were 7 young innovative companies of Ukraine in the design field.
Milan Design Week is one of the largest events in the field of European design and attracts guests from all over the world. So, in 2018, 434,509 people from 188 countries visited it during 6 days of the exhibition. Hundreds of exhibitors and brands showcased their creative potential and presented contemporary furniture, decoration and lighting. Representatives of the leading media gather here to find new talents and extraordinary ideas.
The participation of Ukrainian designers held with the support of the Prostir86 design platform, the Foundation Art-East + Art-West and the EEN-Ukraine Consortium.
The curators of the MODERN_ISM project presentation were cultural manager Olena Oranska architect Olga Bogdanova, and coordinator Daryna Ignatieva subject designer Katerina Sokolova .
The event was attended by the expert of the EEN-Ukraine Consortium, Oksana Budnyk, for the purpose of organizational support and expansion of network. Meetings with potential clients of the EEN-Consortium were also held, in which cooperation opportunities and plans for the future were discussed.
The participants of the event were Natasha Yegorova (TASHA ORO), Eugene Puklych (container), Oksana Levchenko (OLK_MANUFACTORY), Masha Reva (MASHA REVA X NADIIA), Katerina Sokolova (NOOM), team of designers Svoya Studio and Yuri Rintovt (RYNTOVT DESIGN) shown a rethought of the history of Ukrainian modernism , its simplicity, energy and interesting innovative solutions to actual problems, turning deep meaning into material design products.
The designer of the brand TASHA ORO turns the waste of civilization into art objects and jewelry. Natasha Yegorova substantiates the possibilities of processing and utilization of industrial waste by using design tools. At the exhibition, the TASHA ORO brand presented three lines: authentic jewelry, interior decoration and art objects.
Utilitarian aesthetics, functionality, convenience combined with reliability are embodied in the design products of Yevgeny Paklych, who asserts that every item that people use should be useful. For the Contain Air product portfolio, the designer used aluminum pipes, which created a characteristic profile of furniture and lamps.
OLK MANUFACTORY presented traditional and modern handmade carpets at the Ukranian location. Ukrainian artist Oksana Levchenya, founder and CEO of the OLK MANUFACTORY brand, introduced a new product that combines unique contemporary design, folk ornaments and sophisticated traditional techniques, begun in the 16th century.
The designer and head of the studio Ryntovt Design Yurii Rintovt asserts that the collection of SE NUX made in the author’s technique of walnut wood intarsia is a real “dialogue with the surrounding world and nature”. The main idea of the series – penetration, combination and integration of different materials in one object.
Nadiia is a brand created in 2018 by Nadia Shapoval, which reflects the spiritual, artistic and tactile potential of physical objects of everyday life. The exhibition presented a collection of handmade ceramics, made using traditional handicraft techniques in cooperation with the Kiev artist Masha Rewa.
Two series of NOOM brand, presented by their author – Katerina Sokolova – are inspired by ideas and forms of artistic movement Suprematism. At the Milan exhibition were presented the ORB spherical sculpture composition and EL collection of decor, the last is named in honor of the outstanding painter of the twentieth century El Lissitzky, which continues the stylish line of vases and lamps.
The team of Svoya Studio presented a multifunctional ceramic object Raise Vase, which can also be a pot for plant and a vase for flower. Another product from designers is the comfortable chair Smooth chair, which is based on Scandinavian motifs and ergonomic calculations.
The exposition and presentation of Ukrainian designers and the Company mission attracted interest of the large number of visitors and were appeared very creative and innovative. Our designers received many positive reviews from colleagues, visitors and media.
