The role of intangible assets and their value for businesses

The role of intangible assets and their value for businesses, as well as how to introduce innovations to new markets, were discussed in Block #2 of the IP&I Management Forum: How to commercialize your innovative product and make money.

How intellectual property can become a source of competitive advantages and a resource for business development, and why the assessment of intellectual property is an important business management issue Galina Andrushchenko, Head of the Educational, Methodological, and Information-Analytical Support Department at the IP Academy – National IP Training Center of Ukraine, spoke about this.

Her presentation focused on the following topics:

  • Intellectual property as an intangible asset of an enterprise;
  • The part of a company’s value composed of intangible assets;
  • The assessment of rights to intellectual property objects as one of the most crucial strategic business management issues;
  • When the need for assessing the value of rights to intellectual property objects arises and who can conduct it;
  • The sequence of assessing the value of rights to intellectual property objects.

In addition, Block #2 also discussed innovation scaling and entry into new markets.

Olena Tsyplytska, Senior Researcher in the Department of Industrial Policy at the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, talked about the conceptual model and strategies for scaling innovative businesses. She provided examples of best practices in scaling: the experience of “unicorns” and entering new markets with innovative products.

Natalia Shved, Head of the Monitoring Sector for Scientific, Scientific-Technical, and Innovative Activities and Project Manager at Nova International Corporation UkrINTEI LLC, spoke about the use of Enterprise Europe Network (Enterprise Europe Network Ukraine) resources for scientific, scientific-technical, and innovative activities and technology transfer. She outlined the possibilities of using EEN resources for these purposes.

Alexander Bedyuk, EEN Consultant and Senior Researcher at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, discussed the use of EEN tools for conducting preliminary marketing research.
